Dancing on the Keys Preschool (4-6 yrs. old) nurtures the development of basic musicianship skills. A young child’s ear develops most rapidly in the early years making this is an optimal time to begin music lessons. We provide comprehensive musical training and encourage creative expression, through the integration of singing, keyboard playing, percussion playing, reading, writing, movement, and composing.
The group setting provides playful interaction and allows children to feel at ease and at the same time motivated as they learn alongside their peers. Parents (or caregivers) are also participating in class creating a unique musical bond with their child and offering the support to link the class experience to at home practise. Our goal is to ignite that love of music within each child and lay the foundations for a life time of making and sharing music!
In the Dancing on the Keys Preschool Program, the keyboards and percussion instruments are used as tools for exploring such concepts as high/low, loud/soft, long/short, rhythm patterning, coordination and tempo.
In the Dancing on the Keys 2 they will advance to note reading and more in depth exploration of music notation alongside the ear training, singing, movement, and writing activities.
